Love love love

Summer goal: Attain these boots and wear them with every appropriate outfit.
It's been a little while since a pair of shoes have caught my attention this way. Yes, I love all shoes, and yes, I fall in and out of love with them fairly often, however, I have a feeling these ones are long term relationship shoes. The kind you want to take home to your parents. Am I wrong?

Things I would never buy full price

I come across things every once and a while that make me giggle like a school girl. Not because they are silly, not because they are embarrassing, but because they ... well they are a little silly.
So, I am starting this posting, we'll see how frequent it is, but it will feature silly things, overpriced things, things that make my giggle.
Here's the first:

Miu Miu, Mid Thigh Socks - $210 at Net-a-Porter.com

Looking forward to Fall

If you know me, you know that one of my favourite things is buying fall coats. Besides every girls first love of shoes, fall coats are my yearly indulgence. Last year I stuck with my cream coloured standby, but this year I'm splurging. Probably not Chloe or Burberry splurging, but we will see.
Some of my favourites from the Fall 09 collections and otherwise.

Preen Line - $495 at Net-a-Porter.com

Chloe (both above) - Price Unknown

Marc by Marc Jacobs - Price Unknown

Burberry - $1250

Or the cheaper but no less chic alternative...

Marc by Marc Jacobs - $530 at Net-a-Porter.com

Faces of the (mostly) faceless.

Danny Roberts is pretty rad.
Not only did his work make me smile, but his portraits of fashion bloggers worldwide is pretty interesting. Some work below:

A little late on the draw

So yes I know this is a little late, but better late than never correct?
I was on the New York Times website today looking in their style section at some of the slideshows on Fall 2009 Runway shows such as Chloe, MiuMiu and Louis Vuitton.

Leave it up to Marc himself to design a little bright pink and back number that doesnt remind me of something that Avril Lavigne threw up. (see above)
I have never, since the birth of the pop rock princess spawn worn black and pink together. Personally I find it offensive. But the pops of colour used in Vuitton's Fall 2009 collection are nothing close to offensive. I find them refreshing.
Miu Miu and Chloe both resorted to the pale colours, browns and beiges as are normally seen in the fall lines. While obviously Marc is not the first to add pops of vibrancy to the Fall Winter drab, and even though I am not so sure about the bunny ear headdresses, he has single handedly changed my mind about pink and black and their ability to be together.
Proceed with caution, but know that you have my blessing.

Fashion Puns

So I have been quite a bit M.I.A since I have been finishing up my thesis at OCAD in Photography. Well all is done now and I have had a little more time to peruse fashion blogs, more money to buy magazines, and keep abreast of the fashion things I like.

Upon this re-introduction to my own first love, I went to one my favourite fashion blogs, Susie Bubble, and found this:

"My long-bra obsession will be augmented by this black sequin and pink satin versions"

I sincerely love puns, and I love them even more when they reference clothing, and most loved, lingerie. So adorable. (click for original post)

Originality is out of style?

Cardigans? Blue dress shirts? Minis? Patterned Ties?

Really? This was a Spring Must Haves email that I got today and needless to say I am a little unimpressed.

Oscars disaster.

Ok, so this is a little bit of old news, but I have been trying to think of why I hate Beyonce so much (aside from the single ladies song/music video)  and basically, I have come to the conclusion that my hatred can be explained by one simple thing: Her Oscar's Dress.

First of all, the dress is hideous. Gold and black with a trumpet skirt, with the black side panelling? Really? It appears she has the secret dream to be a mermaid from the 80's.
Secondly, who, other that Beyonce, has the audacity to design their OWN DRESS for the Oscars. How presumptuous!
If you're someone to the stature of say, Stella McCartney, or DVF, or Donatella, then yes, wear a paper bag with your name in the hemline, but Beyonce, don't you have friends who actually know how to design clothes? Common.
Stick to singing, multiple personalities, and mediocre acting. Remember when you were good?

Immortalized in lipstick

Image: www.feelunique.com

As much as I dislike both of them, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have a place in my heart after being sculpted by Willard Wigan out of lipstick for the Breast Cancer Campaign. The tiny sculptures are being auctioned off on Ebay, so if you have mad dough and want to contribute to a cause that is near and dear to mine, and many others' hearts, please bid! Auction ends February 19th! Click here to bid.

Wigan's site is temporarily down, but his micro sculptures are pretty amazing. Check him out.

Wear me on your heart.

After finding myself in the mood this morning only to look at men's and women's accessories, I have come to the conclusion that the ultimate status symbol is the brooch.
Really, is there anything else?

House of Holland.

I mean, not every collection can be perfect, but House of Holland is pretty close. Save for some of the men's styling, I can definitely say that I am loving the RTW line this spring.
I've always been weary of mixing prints even though I know it's definitely something to do, and I have once or twice, but HoH goes right for it!

Definitely love the jumper!

Okay... frills? On men? Maybe. But not today my friends not today.

www.archivevintage.com

After a brief hiatus due to some unfortunate events, I have returned to Toronto and have found some new interesting things.
While I am a dedicated buyer from TheUrbanCollection.com (Vintage Cole Haan loafers and a Coach bucket purse being the most recent buys) and NastyGal Vintage I have found a new site to love. Archive Vintage is definitely different in some respects, selling primarily designer vintage from YSL to Halston to Versace Couture, but it still has the same amazing prices and selection!

Take a look at some of my favourites:

Gucci Ashtray - $325 (Smoke in style!)

Chanel 1980's - $425 (I mean, if you're going to wear basic, wear proper basics)
1950's Cocktail Dress - $198
Chloe - $325

Ungaro - $250

Summ-her clothes.

The colder it gets the more I'm thinking about summer. Mostly I am dreaming of denim cut offs, straw hats, and white blouses, which is my summer uniform according to anyone who knows me.
Other things I am looking forward to are as follows:

Boyfriend Jeans: Nothing is better than a stolen pair of jeans, a tank and maybe a piece of gold bling. These, from DKNY, with the black belt are a little out of my price range, but if you have a boyfriend, or a brother, or a friend who is male, stolen alternatives are a must!

Flowery Headpieces: DVF got some heat for being boho predictable, but the headpieces used throughout the show are definitely a DIY must for me this summer. Hear that Rikster, we got to get our craft time on!

Tapered: Seriously. Don't hate. I don't quite know if this pair by BCBG S/S09 is considered to be Harem style or not but either way wear them in shiny fabrics for a night out, or something neutral with a tank for daytime. I have two pairs. Where are yours?

Sky High Heels: First of all, I want these. Second of all, I am looking forward, most of all, to having the ability once again, to wear heels out of the house without the fear of falling on my head. So long Sorels, Hello Heels!

Not a Bracelet!

This morning, and I guess afternoon, has been spent with Roomie and Boyfriend searching for pretty under things.
Roomie has been nursing her current obsession for underthings lately and I have been dragged in and I am entirely okay with it!

Pretty shiny things.

In reading some of my daily blogs I stumbled accross Jewelry designer Husam Ed Odeh. Buddy makes some beautiful things, and as a part time jewelry designer myself it's something I wish I had more of!

The images on his website seem to be from quite a while ago. His S/S 09 Collection is similar to the piece on the left, however the older lines are quite stunning. Ear cuffs, unconventional pearl earrings, and pencils on chains.
So simple and so pretty.
Take a look.

Just as a general rule...

Balenciaga S/S 2009

As usual, I always look forward to the Balenciaga Spring Summer ling as it is one my favourite Fashion Houses. The Fall line, while amazing, never compares to Nicolas' amazing s/s lines.
After last years structured Geometric, floral suits and dresses.

Except that first one right there. Yeah you with the horrible flares that look like something I wore in grade 7. Please for the love of anything sane, these pants cannot come back.
